Create and develop innovative architectural designs and collaborate with the construction team.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field (Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or Architectural Engineering).
- A Master’s degree may be preferred for advanced design or leadership roles.
- In some cases, a diploma/certificate in CAD/BIM drafting with strong experience may be acceptable for junior roles.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, Rhino, or Vectorworks.
- Knowledge of 3D visualization & rendering tools (Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray, Twinmotion, etc.).
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) standards.
- Strong skills in construction drawings, detailing, and drafting.
- Understanding of building codes, zoning laws, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of sustainable design and green building standards (LEED, BERDE, WELL, etc.) is a plus.
Professional Requirements
- Work experience:
- Entry-level: Internship or 1–2 years in an architecture/design firm.
- Mid-level: 3–5 years, with project involvement from concept to construction.
- Senior-level: 5+ years, plus leadership in design development.
- Portfolio of work showing design creativity and technical skills.
- Ability to prepare design presentations, diagrams, and construction documents.
- Coordination experience with engineers, consultants, and contractors.
Soft Skills
- Strong creativity and problem-solving ability.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and presentation skills (verbal, written, and visual).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and also independently.
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
Licensure (Optional but Preferred)
- Not all “Architectural Designer” roles require a professional license, but:
- Licensed Architect (RA, RLA, ARB, etc.) is a major advantage.
- For unlicensed designers, the role is often limited to design and drafting under the supervision of a licensed architect.
