Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree is an advantage for senior roles.
- Diploma or certificate in Construction Estimation / Cost Control may be acceptable for entry-level.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building regulations.
- Proficiency in cost estimation, budgeting, and cost control.
- Familiarity with contracts administration (e.g., claims, variations, and payments).
- Experience with tendering and bidding processes.
- Competence in software such as:
- AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks (for quantity takeoff)
- MS Excel, CostX, Planswift, Bluebeam (for estimating)
- Primavera P6, MS Project (for project scheduling, optional)
Professional Requirements
- Work experience:
- Entry-level: Internship or 1–2 years in cost estimating/contract administration.
- Mid-level: 3–5 years with exposure to full project lifecycle.
- Senior-level: 5–10+ years plus leadership in cost planning and commercial management.
- Ability to prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), cost plans, and feasibility studies.
- Skilled in valuation of variations, progress payments, and final accounts.
- Knowledge in procurement methods and subcontractor evaluation.
Soft Skills
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements/calculations.
- Good negotiation and communication skills for dealing with contractors and clients.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
